Kherson Region


Kherson Oblast is a region in southern Ukraine, known for its agricultural lands, access to the Black and Azov Seas, and historical heritage, such as the Kherson Fortress. Its cultural heritage includes Cossack traditions, resort towns, and wine-making regions.
Total Area: 28,461 km²
Administrative Structure: The region is divided into 5 districts, 9 cities, 31 urban-type settlements, and 695 villages. The administrative center is the city of Kherson.
Demographics: As of January 1, 2022, the population of Kherson Oblast was approximately 1 million people. Due to Russian aggression, the population has significantly decreased.
Interesting Facts: region is a land with fertile soils, where grain, vegetable, and melon crops are grown. Numerous nature reserves and national parks, such as the Azov-Syvash National Nature Park, are located in the region. Kherson is a city with a rich history, where numerous historical sites, such as the Kherson Fortress, are located.
Russian-Ukrainian War: From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Kherson Oblast was one of the first to be occupied by Russian troops.The city of Kherson and other settlements in the region suffered significant destruction as a result of the Russian occupation and constant shelling. After the liberation of right bank part of Kherson region, the numerous war crimes were found, which was commited by occupants. A significant part of Kherson region is temporarily occupied by Russian troops. As a result of the war, the region suffered enormous destruction and losses.
